Only Switzerland could make efficiency look this beautiful. This 15-day Switzerland rail journey lets you enjoy the Alps from the comfort of your seat, exploring Switzerland’s most dynamic cities en route, including Zurich, Lucerne, Montreaux and Interlaken, hub of the Bernese Oberland.
Begin your Swiss vacation in Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city and financial capital, with your Swiss Travel Pass in hand. Your pass gives you free admission or discounts to many of Zurich’s museums and cultural attractions, as well as numerous attractions in the nearby countryside. It also grants free access to Zurich’s public transit system, so you can enjoy a hassle-free first taste of Switzerland.
Board the train bound for Lucerne, a lovely lakeside city with a well-preserved medieval town. Lucerne’s Alpine location puts you within easy reach of numerous picturesque towns and villages that show Switzerland at its most enchanting. No train trip better captures the beauty of the region, however, than the Gotthard Panorama Express, which combines a cruise on the lake with its panoramic rail journey.
Take the scenic train to continue your trip to Switzerland to Interlaken, your gateway to the Bernese Oberland, often described as Switzerland’s most scenic area (no small praise in this country!). Pass some of Switzerland’s most famous peaks including Eiger and Jungfrau, then enjoy two full days exploring the mountains and scenic cog railways such as Schynige Platte and the Jungfraujoch. A jetboat ride on Lake Brienz offers a different perspective on the mountains if you want to get your blood pumping.
On the eastern shores of Lake Leman, near the border with France, Montreaux enchants visitors with more incredible views, best enjoyed with a glass of local wine. Montreaux is famous for producing some of Switzerland’s finest wines, and a vineyard tour is highly recommended. A wealth of mountain excursions or city escapes sit at your fingertips as well, including some of Switzerland’s top museums, ideal if it’s a rainy day.
